Create an Assessment

Overview

Assessments allow learners and assessors to record evidence for learning aims. Depending on Centre permissions, learners may also be able to create assessments themselves.

Who Can Use This Feature?

This feature can be used by the following user roles:

  • Assessor and Trainee
  • Learner

Centre Setting

To enable learners to create assessments, ensure the Centre setting “Allow learners to create assessments” is turned on.

Best Practice

It is recommended to plan assessments collaboratively with the learner. However, if an unplanned assessment is required, follow the steps below.

Steps to Create an Assessment

Step 1 – Navigate to the Learner’s Portfolio

Open the learner’s portfolio from your homepage or learner list.

Step 2 – Access Assessments

  • Click Assessments.
  • Select Create Assessment.

Step 3 – Enter Assessment Details

  • Primary Method: Choose an assessment method from the drop‑down list.
  • Evidence Recording: Select how evidence will be recorded.
  • Who Starts the Assessment: Choose either Assessor or Learner.

Step 4 – Start the Assessment

Click Start to begin the assessment.

Who Starts the Assessment?

  • Assessor: The assessment is created for the assessor to provide evidence.
  • Learner: The learner will be able to provide evidence.

Troubleshooting

Issue: The Assessment icon is not visible.
Solution: This usually indicates that the units linked to the learner’s learning aims have not been fully saved.

Centre Managers or Assessors with the correct permissions can select and save the units within the learner’s portfolio.

Tip: Always confirm that units are correctly saved before creating assessments to avoid interruptions.

Terminology
